Uploading images

[edit]

Hi, WP:UPIMAGE has some info on uploading images, and it's pretty simple once you get used to it. I'd upload a new photo for you, but there's a bit of a problem with uploading images "just for Wikipedia." If you tag the image as such, it will be a candidate for deletion according to the WP:IUP policy.

There are two solutions:

  • You can upload a photo under the GFDL or a Creative Commons license, providing there are no copyright problems with the photo.
  • If that's not possible, you can upload a low-res copyrighted image with a "fair use" tag, labelling it as an unfree image that's only used on certain pages.

I think Image:Vanrossum.jpg is currently being used under the second solution. I think you can upload a "Wikipedia only" image under "fair use," but I'm not totally sure. I'll let you know what I find out.

If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. Cheers, --Kjoonlee 03:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I asked at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#"For Wikipedia only" and fair use. --Kjoonlee 04:08, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, from reading the answers at WP:MCQ and Wikipedia:Fair use, it looks like a GFDL/CC image would be the way to go. Could you get the copyright assigned to yourself so that you could upload it, by any chance? That would be very nice. Thank you. --Kjoonlee 15:10, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newer image of you

[edit]

Hi there. If you'd still like to see a more recent picture of you used in your article (per your user page), I may be able to help. I did a cursory search of flickr, and the only (recent) image I could find under a suitable license was this one. Wikipedia only allows images of living persons if they're released under an appropriate license (public domain, CC-BY, or CC-BY-SA if I recall). So if you want a better picture in your article, I recommend taking a good one, post it online, release it under CC-BY, and then notifying a Wikipedian to do the honors.

On a completely unrelated note, thanks for Python; it's really the only reason I'm still a hacker :) -FrankTobia (talk) 06:42, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the photo that's up there is the best one. Glad you like the language! Gvanrossum (talk) 16:43, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tulip (python project) has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

You forgot to sign your message. But I'm fine with deletion of the article about the tulip project. Gvanrossum (talk) 23:30, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
